Before we start,we should first make a System Restore Point (If you break anything you'll be able to restore your computer before you made these changes). It is recommended that you create a restore point before installing new software or making any major changes to your computer.

Using System Restore in Windows

Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties

Next click on the System Protection link.

The System Properties dialog screen opens up and you will want to click on Create.

Type in a description for the restore point which will help you remember the point at which is was created. (Example: Before New Anti Virus)

The time it takes to create the restore point will depend on the amount of data, computer speed etc.

All done! Now if something goes wrong you have the satisfaction knowing that you can go back in time to the point before the changes were made.

Getting Started

IMPORTANT: It is more safe to set the following services to manual rather than disabling them. This is because when some times if windows needs a service windows can start it by itself if and only if it is set to manual. If you set it to disabled Windows 7 cannot start the service by it’s own.

1. Right-click on Computer icon on desktop and select Manage, it'll open a new window. Now go to Services & Applications -> Services.
You can also open the same from Administrative Tools -> Computer Management.
Or you can directly open "Services" list by typing services.msc command in RUN or Startmenu search box.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

2. Now you can set the unnecessary services to DISABLED or MANUAL. Just double-click on any service and select the desired option in Startup type list box.

List of Services that you may want to turn off:

Application Experience
Computer Browser (If your computer is not connected to any network)
Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (If you don't use Aero theme and on a NetBook)
Diagnostic Policy Service
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Error Reporting Service (If you do not want to send error logs to microsoft)
HomeGroup Provider (No HomeGroup Sharing)
Homegroup Listener (No HomeGroup Sharing)
IP Helper
Offline Files
Portable Device Enumerator Service
Print Spooler (If you don't have a Printer)
Protected Storage
Remote Registry (Always disable it for Security purposes)
Secondary Logon
Security Center
Server (If your computer is not connected to any network)
SSDP Discovery (No HomeGroup Sharing)
Tablet PC Input Service (If you do not use any Tablet devices)
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Windows Image Acquisitions (WIA) (If you don't have a Camera/Scanner)
Windows Error Reporting Service
Windows Media Center Service Launcher
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Services (No HomeGroup Sharing)
Windows Time (If you don't want to update system tray clock time using Internet)
Windows Firewall (If you have another Firewall installed)
Windows Defender (If you have another Antispyware + Antivirus installed)

Thats it, following all these steps will certainly boost the speed and performance of your windows 7 operating system.

If some services cant be disabled it means a program or another service is dependent on it. no worries Smile
